Amygdalin Extract

Amygdalin extract  is an aromatic cyanogenic glycoside isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine bitter almond and has antitussive effect. It can release a small amount of hydrocyanic acid and is used to relieve cough. Exists in Rosaceae plants Prunus armeniaca L. seeds, peach Prunus persica (L.) Batsch. seeds, plum Prunus salicina Lindl. seeds, plum Prunus mume (Sieb.) Sieb.et Zucc. seed kernels, etc.

Amygdalin is vitamin B17, which is not a B vitamin (because any of its components cannot serve as a coenzyme). Chemically, it is a compound of two sugar molecules, namely benzaldehyde and cyanide, called amygdalin; as a pharmaceutical, it is also called Nitrilosides, which is derived from almonds.
