Rhizoma Alismatis (scientific name: Alisma plantago-aquatica Linn.) is a perennial aquatic or bog herb. The whole plant is poisonous, but the underground tubers are more toxic. Tubers 1-3.5 cm in diameter, or larger. Anthers are about 1 mm long, oval, yellow, or light green; achenes are oval, or nearly oblong, and seeds are purplish brown and raised. Produced in Heilongjiang, Jilin and other provinces. It grows in shallow water zones of lakes, rivers, streams, and ponds, and also grows in swamps, ditches, and low-lying wetlands. The flowers are larger and the flowering period is longer, so it can be used for flower viewing. It can also be used as medicine to treat nephritis, edema, pyelonephritis, enteritis, diarrhea, and dysuria.
